Daniel Williams hat mit der heimlichen Veröffentlichung dieses Buches (ohne Wissen Mumias und seines damaligen Hauptverteidigers Leonard Weinglass, New York,) Parteiverrat begangen. Das Problem mit dem Buch ist vor allem, dass Williams darin ausführlich Interna des ersten Verteidigungsteams (Streit, Widersprüche zwischen Verteidigern etc.) ausbreitet und gegen die internationale Kampagne der "Linksradikalen" hetzt, denen er vorwirft, sie wollten Mumia letztendlich zum Märtyrer machen, wozu sie seine Hinrichtung brauchten. Mumia war völlig geschockt über dieses Buch und Willaims' Verhalten. Das hat damals zur Mandatsentbindung nicht nur von Williams, sondern des gesamten RA-Teams geführt. Mumia stand vorübergehend ohne Verteidiger da, und dann kam eine zweijährige Phase, in der er anwaltlich äusserst schlecht vertreten war (bis dann 2003 Robert R. Bryan Hauptverteidiger wurde). Williams hat übrigens genau gewusst, dass er mit der Veröffentlichung seinen Rausschmiss provoziert. So hatte er nicht nur einen Buchvertrag, der ihm bei einem der grossen New Yorker Verlage viel Geld eingebracht hat, sondern auch seinen "heldenhaften" Abgang, nach dem er öffentlich sagen konnte (sinngemäss): "Seht her, ich bin der eigentliche Experte & Stratgege im team, aber Mumia will das nicht einsehen und sich lieber von Idioten beraten lassen, die ihn gemeinsam mit der linksradikalen Kampagne aus politischen Gründen opfern und in die Hinrichtungskammer bringen wollen!"
